For what it's worth, my personal experience right through the pandemic chimes with your observations. With the exception of a single AMS-CPH FB award flight, all my flights were in J, longhaul as well as shorthaul, on quite a variety of airlines.
The only mask I'll wear when sleeping is the kind that goes over the eyes. Never an issue. No idea whether the cabin crew snuck around at night checking on snoozing pax, but nobody ever woke me up. When awake I always played fast and loose with those masks. I'm amazed at how quickly I became an enthusiastic supporter of my own idiosyncratic interpretation of the Slow Food Movement concept. Most flights I would also have conversations, some short, some long, with the purser or other FAs on various topics including masks, without wearing one. Never an issue. I don't think I wore a mask more than half the time on any pandemic flight. Heck, in the first several month nobody had even hit upon the idea yet.
