I had a one-nighter here a couple weeks ago, actually thought I posted about it but I guess not!
In response to the welcome email (a couple days out), I replied that I was traveling solo so no need for a big upgrade but I would appreciate a little extra room and a welcome beverage or bar credit. They responded quickly offering to load a $25 bar credit onto my folio, and I was upgraded to a corner king (same room CMK posted above), which was perfectly good for me.
I used points because at 8,000 points a night including valet parking it's a steal (beats paying the prevailing room rate plus parking even with pre-tax income), and I'm doing it again at the end of May.
The $25 got me two Monkey 47 gin martinis at the bar (also a relative steal at $11 each). Globalist breakfast was whatever you want at the restaurant. I didn't want to gorge at the buffet so I didn't even look at it, but it was also late in the day (like 10am) and I tend to dislike buffets that late when there's a higher risk that food has been sitting out since 6 or 7. Anyhow, I ordered the eggs benedict which was perfectly fine, and I had two cappuccinos which were really really good. As in, if you want a good cappuccino come here and get one even if you're not staying here -- though admittedly I may have just gotten lucky with a really good waitress who knew her stuff. I left an 18% tip on the bill plus $2 cash. The bill with the 18% tip was wiped off my folio.
Valet parking was quick and efficient each time (ended up going down to MGM National Harbor to watch the NCAA championship from their sportsbook). I was able to push the 4pm checkout to 5pm (just by calling and asking nicely). Mobile key worked.
Honestly nothing bad to say about the place, I always forget that it's actually a decent hotel compared to most of the junky DCA joints. Staff were all friendly, location is great, and the hotel itself felt very "alive" with activity.
