Crew layovers or “night stops”, following the merger of all Cabin Crew fleets at LHR have now been standardised for all crew, following a signing of a new rostering agreement with the Trade Unions.
Length of layover will depend on how far away the destination is, time changes etc. Destinations are divided into Category’s which determine how many nights down route for Cabin crews and also how many days rest at base. This of course can change depending on frequency of flight (e.g. crews could get two nights in JFK if frequency/rotation demands it). CAT1 - short haul there and back
CAT2 - Short haul (can either be there and back or a night stop)
CAT3 - Short Haul (must include night stop in destination)
CAT4 - Long Haul (US east coast, Africa, Middle East, some Indian and Caribbean stations)
CAT5 - Long Haul (Mid America, some Indian and Caribbean stations plus SEA, YVR)
CAT6 - Long Haul (Far East, South Africa, South America, Indian Ocean)
This is part of cabin crews industrial agreements, negotiated when fleets merged and is applicable to all crew at LHR. LGW long haul crew have similar agreements. LGW Euroflyer only operate short haul there and backs.
