I'll be driving in a rental car. How will that work? Am I going to be hit with the 'penalty' from my rental car place for having unpaid tolls?
There are no booths to pay the tolls in Canada?
Thank you
The 401 which runs between Toronto and Ottawa (or close to Ottawa, at least) is a free highway. The 407 is a toll road that runs across the top of Toronto, but is easily avoided. It’s pretty expensive, so unless it’s going to save you a lot of time, it’s usually best to avoid it. There are no booths—they take a picture of the plate and then mail out a bill.
If you take the 407, you
will get a charge from the rental company, and probably a little extra surcharge for their bother.
Within Google Maps you can set it to avoid toll roads. Do that and it won’t lead you to the 407.
