It is the new normal. Both on the MasterCard and on the AMEX (actually, AMEX removed the status card years ago when they change to the new Blue, Premium and Elite). SEB "explained" it is to improve sustainability (which is the new marketing lingo for cost saving....) having the card valid for 4 years now and do not have to send out a new card every year.

The digital card in the SAS app (you can also export it from there to the Apple Wallet, I assume there is a similar function in the Android world....) is accepted almost everywhere instead of a plastic card. You still can order a plastic card on the SAS EuroBonus website:
