One time when I was flying back to AVP, there were some guys on the PHL-AVP flight who did something like that. The FA's had a good laugh about it, and even told the gate agents at AVP, who continued to give them a hard time.
Me and the AVP guys are probably a rare breed. I'll do it in a pinch but I hate driving long distances and know I won't be at my best after 3.5 hours behind the wheel. So there is a premium I'd pay for someone else to do the piloting.
Time-wise, I can also work if not driving so that goes into my calculus.
