Carmageddon: any way to find vaguely affordable car hire this summer?
Hello all,
I'm going to be flying into Bari this summer, for a much-anticipated family holiday in Puglia. All is sorted, apart from the car. Prices are sky high everywhere, and €500/week seems to be the best I can find right now (though there's a lot that's double that). I've trawled the car hire threads here for discount codes, have contacted several local (Italy-wide as well as Bari-based) companies, but little turns up, even for the "no deposit, contact us via WhatsApp" outfits around the city. The flight arrives at 4pm, meaning it's pretty tight for a few local places that close at 6.
The other options I've found have been a few car dealerships that rent out cars short-term (they will know their summer inventory in May), the peer-to-peer rental site auting.it (any experiences?) but even that's got inflated over the last few weeks, and the possibility of renting goods vehicles instead (I need 3 seats, and am used to driving 1t vans, but really don't fancy having to drive them down unfamiliar country lanes with a child in the front, and have read some horror stories about the state of some of them).
Any help would be much appreciated!
