Some notes on the above -

We were booked into Ocean View @ Hokupa'a and got exactly what we booked. It was during spring break, and we had pre-booked connecting rooms, so I'm not surprised that there wasn't a further upgrade within the tower.

Some notes on the rooms - we had 375 and 377. These are Ocean View on the north-facing side of the new tower, meaning you look out at Whaler's Village immediately next door. On a lower floor like this one, you are below the level of the palms at Whaler's Village so some of the view is (mildly) obstructed. More importantly (and disturbingly) trucks begin their deliveries to the backside of Whaler's Village at approximately 5 AM - beeps and all. I was able to sleep through it, but my wife found it disturbing every day.

Also, on the north-facing side there is no sunset view - you are blocked by the building itself as the sunset (at least this time of year) is slightly southwest. So if I were going as a couple (or solo traveler) and was more in a state to start a discussion with the management, I would push back against any lower-floor room on the North (odd-numbered) side.

Overall had a very positive impression of the property. The Lanai was lovely with good food offerings. Even full, there were always chairs available someplace on the many pool decks, and the adults-only pool was a good respite. Maui was PACKED while we were there and ANY restaurant had a 60-90 minute wait at best without a reservation, and we saw many restaurants just turning people away without a reservation. Also, as others have mentioned, rates are just off the charts - including cash co-pays.
