Wrapped up a stay here recently, and other than finding the refrigerator as I mentioned above, wanted to share a few other thoughts.
I started out lukewarm on the property, but I think I ended up liking it. I
wrestled my way into using points, which was a great deal with the astronomical rates being charged right now, and of course an even better deal with the inclusion of parking and resort fee for Globalists on points. I was also considering various Bonvoy options for this stay, and I'm very confident the Andaz was a better Maui option than any of those, between probably a nicer overall hotel, avoiding parking & resort fee costs, and a much more extensive elite breakfast offering than what I understand any of the Maui Bonvoy hotels are currently offering. So hard to complain about the value, although I assume many of the many other guests on site were paying the very high cash rates (starting ~$1300/night, maybe unless some booked very early) so I don't know how they felt.
From looking at some old reviews, the breakfast looked to be back to pretty close to pre-COVID standards. It was solid for the US, though it wouldn't attract much notice among higher-end hotels in Europe or Asia, but of course that's not an entirely fair comparison.
We were upgraded to an ocean view room facing the adults pool on the 4th floor in the center tower, which I appreciated given what the baseline is for points bookings. There were lots of things I found annoying about the room -- it's a bit small for high-end Hawaii standards; I spent the first few days thinking there wasn't a fridge; and the bathroom was overall cramped and poorly laid out -- a less "cool" shower arrangement could have really made it a much more useful space overall, and there were lots of little annoyances like no space to store any toiletry items in the shower and no double sinks.
But, the public resort spaces are quite nice, and in addition to the specific items I mentioned above about value vs. Bonvoy options, there were also other nice things -- most notably getting seats by the pool was not too hard at any point (though we did sometimes have to go to the quieter adults pool rather than the main pools), whereas many of the other Hawaii points hotels report annoyances with needing to reserve seats first thing in the morning. And no additional charge for beach seats either, which not all points properties in Maui can say. I also found staff throughout the hotel to be very friendly, though not always the most responsive / quick to check in for things like providing the check (but that is not unusual in Hawaii). I would definitely skip Morimoto next time, or at least not go for the sushi, which was a bit worse quality than our usual (above average, granted) takeout sushi place at home ... though also at least not all that much more expensive.
One other thing I would recommend is the mixology "class" which you can sign up for under the resort fee offerings; I put class in quotes because we really didn't have to do anything, so it was essentially a few free 10am drinks in exchange for listening to some (interesting!) info for an hour. Currently Monday's class, which we attended, is mai tais, and you get an original and "modern" mai tai; Wednesday's class is tequila and mezcal, and Friday's is classic cocktails.
In the end if I did it again, I would have done one fewer night at the Andaz and 2 rather than 1 nights at the Hana-Maui, which I will post about separately in that thread, but don't think there's an option I would have liked better in Maui without spending huge amounts of money (and with a high risk of disappointment even if I had), so overall it was a good stay.
