First, it is very far from the DL gates, at least 5-10min walk from security checkpoint depending on your pace, and of course much farther to the end of the B gates. Second, food and drinks are not grab and go. You cannot even order at the bar (or so I was told). You have to find a seat, then scan the QR code, then order on your phone. If you are lucky maybe a waiter will stop at your table to ask what you want (I saw this happen with others but they completely ignored me). Of course it is impossible to customize anything when you have a check the box menu. The menu itself was pretty limited though much better than the Amex lounge and most domestic lounges. Third, the drink took at least 10 minutes; I don't know how long the shrimp cocktail took as I had to get the gate which was at the other end of the B terminal.
As posted elsewhere I typically have <30 minutes to spend in the lounge. So this really doesn't meet my needs. I'm valuing this "benefit" at $0 when calculating the value of Plat card perks. Maybe works for international flights where you arrive early and have a couple of hours to kill.
You might love the Centurion Lounge LAX then since grab and go is all they have
To me, the whole point of a lounge is to stay, relax, possibly work, etc., so 30 minutes just seems like a waste when it comes to taking advantage of airport lounges. I find the experience of a nice relaxing lounge adds tremendously to the overall quality of my flight, but if I had 30 minutes I'd hardly bother. I arrive early just to get that experience, if the lounge is open and not super crowded. It's not a waste of time to me since I can settle in and get some work done, too.
The VS lounge was also great as an arrival lounge after a redeye (which is how I usually fly to New York, to avoid losing a day in travel).
