Actually Hyatt has recently changed a bit of the cancellation policy. The new policy is, that if the cancellation policy states 48 hours (2 days) prior arrival, it means that you have time to cancel until 11:59 PM. Example, if your arrival would be on Wednesday March 9th, it means you can cancel until Monday March 7th, before midnight (11:59 PM).

So not 24/48/72 hrs prior to standard check-in, but instead prior to 0:00 of the day on which you originally planned to check in.

This is also reflected on Hyatt's website (
COVID-19 Update | Hyatt Hotels, emphasis is mine):

Subject to certain restrictions, reservations confirmed or changed by an Explorist, Globalist or Lifetime Globalist can be cancelled until 11:59 p.m. the day before arrival, when the hotel’s or resort’s cancellation period is not more than 48 hours prior to check-in.
This is helpful information - frankly, I find that Hyatt has the most annoying cancellation policy wording. It feels like the lack of complete sentences allow for massive levels of interpretation.

However, the 11:59 PM policy brings parity with Marriott - if only hotel rate listings would be updated to show this more clearly in confirmation emails and bookings.
