Jumping on this thread, but what about dropping the last two nights of a five night points stay (with cash upgrade)? Will Marriott or the hotel just drop the last two nights and hold the rate?
Both the cash and points amounts have shot sky high, so rebooking doesn’t make sense. But I’d love to save the cash for nights 4-5 and get 85K points back.
Whenever you make a change to a reservation it is repriced at the current rate. You could call the hotel and ask nicely for them to do it as a favor. I think it is unlikely that they will be willing to do so. So probably best to stick with the original reservation and just continue to check rates up until your stay. It is possible the price may drop enough to make rebooking worth it. Good luck....
