Thanks both for the replies.
I forgot to mention that i have car hire excess insurance (AXA) with my curve metal subscription.
Given that is National then the best choice (I agree with the statement re: quality of cars) as i have always had good experiences in the US with them albeit the EA hasn't always been great.
Avis everywhere other than the US have always been decent.
