Eh, it is only decent in North America, but once you get outside of NA, it becomes much more valuable and likely the best coverage outside of being an alliance elite (and only flying within that alliance). But yes, having an Amex Plat gives so many more options (mostly in North America) where PP is only one tool in the toolbelt (although you do give up restaurant access if it is through Amex)
Save for flagship lounges, US airport lounges are generally sub-par, much like the airports themselves.
Since you mentioned North America however, Mexican airports are pretty good about offering access to PP holders.
