Exactly why I always booked the base room on our corp rate and usually got Exec room, whether I was Gold or Diamond at the time didn't seem to matter much IIRC.

They would also give some additional goodies at certain milestones like 10, 20, ... 50 nights or so, e.g. a free dinner for 2, spa treatments, etc. That was a while ago though . YMMV.
