Close to the University? plenty, but I'm referring to the other end of Parque Forestal. The University is near Plaza Italia and perfectly safe (in fact it is now rather trendy, with all the night life in nearby Bellavista). The area I suggest not to visit is far from there, opposite Estacion Mapocho, across the river. Nothing to see there, IMO, just unsavoury and, perhaps, unsafe for tourists, seldom seen in such surroundings.
