They were travelling under two separate booking references but both checked in together. I really do not know how the first K to N upgrade happened - probably it was a mistake but it could have happened for CIP reasons in Cyprus. My daughter was not allowed to check-in online at BKK due to a 'missing payment for additional services', but this was apparently ignored by the airport staff. The printed ticket issued by OS stated N class upgrade.
