The First Wing suggestion is a good one, thanks (presuming I can still enter the UK with a US passport with the e-gates). I had forgotten the passenger locator form is no more so staying airside is not as important as it was.
Yes it is very likely to arrive on T5C, and pretty unlikely (but not impossible) your onward flight will go from T5C. Your short haul flight is more likely to go from T5A or possibly T5B. If T5B it may be worth walking/transit to T5B and seeing if the connection centre is open there.
