Different frequent-flyer programs can charge vastly different numbers of miles for the very same seat on the very same flight. Some FFPs also collect carrier surcharges for award travel on some airlines. (United does not.) And some airlines make fewer award seats available for redemption by partner FFPs than through their own FFP.
In some cases, it might be cheaper to use your Chase UR points to buy a cash ticket on TK through the Chase travel portal than to transfer UR points to a TK partner to book an award flight.
