There are still plenty of other possibilities BUT.... 737s don't just fall out of the sky with no communication from the flight crew unless the flight crew is intent on crashing or incapacitated or locked out of the cockpit. The partial regaining of control could speak to a struggle. Also, the timing has always been interesting to me. A few minutes before starting the descent is a very popular time for pilots to take a pee break and leave the cockpit.... with a FA in his/her place.
