You never need 2 nights. An one night booking is always enough. But you can‘t leave your room before you‘ve got the test result. Hotels are very generous about early check-ins and late check-outs for test&go guests.
I‘ve heard of people, who didn‘t stay even the first night (but they had to book and pay for the first night). They‘ve got their test results early and took the next flight to HKT, USM etc.
