The best plan here is to have Delta cancel the ticket for an eCredit rather than for a refund. You would then need to use the non-transferrable eCredit by its expiration date (currently 12/31/2023 for all Delta tickets), but that is the only option that will be sure to avoid any risk of credit clawback by Amex.
