Wrapped up my trip to Columbus with a visit to the Hotel Leveque (as seen in my prior post about the cool room key designs). This is a very nice hotel that gets most things right, some things really right, and a couple not so right.
Of course, the hotel only occupies the 5th through 10th floors of a beautiful 1920s tower. Definitely make a stop to the residential lobby to view some beautiful interior and ceiling work. The tower itself has apparently been the center of some ICE-related controversies, but I didn't notice anything of that nature.
I had to ask at check-in, but I was able to get upgraded to a wonderful King Larger Suite on the 9th floor. A dining area with seats for 4, a half-bath, a large living area with couch and two armchairs, a separate bedroom, and a full bathroom with the largest shower I have ever seen. The shower had in-wall heads that could be turned on at the same time as the overhead head. As a result, you could create a significant steam room with four shower heads blasting you at once. Pressure from each head was just fine, but combining them was a great experience. In the bedroom, I really enjoyed the art and sculpture. The bed itself was nice - plush mattress, normal/thin covers. The sheets were soft and had obviously been washed many times - kind of homey. The TVs had an odd Android-based operating system with a motion control remote and a full Internet browser. Unfortunately, the only native app was Amazon Prime Video.
One really fun thing - the room came with a star projector for the bedroom. This added really nice ambience at night.
I overall really enjoyed this room and the design.
Service was really good - very friendly front desk agents (especially at check-in). One of the housekeepers asked me how my stay had been going. No issue with 4 PM late checkout and no knocking.
Breakfast was kind of odd - I got 2 $12 vouchers for The Keep. $12 isn't enough for most entrees, let alone an entree and beverage. Oh, well, it was just me, so that was fine. I got the biscuit sandwich, which was fine, but the cheese didn't have a great flavor. Oddly, the potatoes were quite good. Like the vouchers stated, I was charged for the tip (and 1 cent over what I actually tipped). For one person, I think this breakfast would be fine, and I would try other items, like the pumpkin pancake.
The location was a bit of a negative - the surrounding area was eerily low on people. I preferred the increased crowds of Short North.
Overall, I thought this was a great stay.
