not exactly the same, but i had one raise a stink on a points redemption where i needed to leave a day early, and i told them to just keep the points for the full stay. they said they can't do that, and i would have to pay cash for the last day if they couldn't rent it out, etc, etc. in the end, after some heated discussion ("i've already paid for the room whether i'm there or not is irrelevant"), they just let it go. i didn't get any points back (wasn't looking for them) and i'm hoping that they got "paid" for the last day
i think the act of checking out triggers a bunch of stuff where they can't override the actual date any more.
