It is a factor in the calculus, just not in a way that benefits you. As
Beltway2A notes above, your employer is the one getting the benefit by agreeing to deny you loyalty status perks in return for whatever cut they're getting. So this has all been thought through, quite carefully in fact, it's just that you're the one getting the short end of the stick.
