I canceled an award last week - there is no such wording. Rather the cancellation confirmation screen said the miles are immediately returned to the account so you can use it to rebook. The payment will be returned to the original form of payment and may take several days.
Miles literally showed up in account within seconds together with the activity banner. Though the balance total took a couple minutes to refresh to reflect the increased balance.
I canceled an award just before I posted my question and there absolutely was such wording. That's what led to my question.
