Ah, I don't know anything about their industry but from mine, a layman's, perspective, isn't it a safety issue? If a pilot is being ferried to fly another plane, wouldn't it be prudent to ensure he/she is well rested, refreshed and as sharp as he/she can be? Can you imagine if there were a crash because one of the potential causes were the pilot(s) were exhausted and fatigued by being crunched on a redeye in coach?

This argument is made a lot but it doesn't really hold water. The pilot's mandated rest period does not count travel time, regardless of class of service. When they get to their bed (home, hotel, whatever) their rest period starts. That's what guarantees the safety. The rest of it is just AS bowing down to the unions and screwing over their paying customers.
