As I mentioned, the DOT has clarified that airlines cannot do this, so individual airline policies are moot. AS didn't need a policy for that situation; they need to do what their regulator tells them to do.

However, that specifically involves removing someone from the plane, not getting them to switch seats. I would assume that it would apply as well (the point is that they don't want airlines forcibly removing passengers) but I might be wrong there.
