That tallies with the 618 number prefix on the SQ issued tickets. My conversation with them has been going on for several days due to message response times. As a result it has gone round in circles somewhat and I've had that same answer twice, probably from two different agents.
Let's see what the call centre agents say...
OK, so I spoke to the call centre twice. The first lady I spoke to was very helpful, selected us seats 2A and 2C on the business class sector, gave me details of seat selection pricing for the economy sector and after I told her I couldn't select them online and speaking to someone else offered to waive the admin fee for arranging it over the phone. We left it there so I could discuss options with my wife and check the available seats on expertflyer.com. When I phoned back the second lady I spoke to went off to check and then said it wasn't possible and, interestingly, implied that paid/economy seat pre-selection isn't allowed under their agreement with Singapore Airlines.
They have, at least, linked the bookings. Oddly mine is now showing selection with an Up-Front seat and a note that one of my seats is not confirmed. So they obviously tried to do something with the economy sector but failed.
I've also been talking to them about a separate OA flight that was booked directly with A3 in Comfort Flex. I can't select seats for that flight either but on that one they have told me pre-seating is not available (or possibly not open yet but weren't able to advise if/when that might change). It's an ATR operated domestic service, and I'm assuming that seat selection will be possible at OLCI. Is it normal for those flights not to offer preselection?
Confirmed that it is not possible ahead of OLCI so we'll just sort it then.
