That applies to *all* rates from that hotel, not just "long stay" or weekly type rates. I have a bad feeling this is going to propagate through the rest of the chain...
This is extremely normal and somewhat understandable from the hotel POV. You made a contract for ( for example) 5 room nights. a rate is agreed, then you decide to leave one night early. The room you booked might not get sold so they hotel wants you to pay as per your contract.
Often if you talk to management at the earliest opportunity, they will waive this, but certainly not new and you have agreed to the clause when you made the booking.
