One of the problems for leisure travellers are rapid changes and inconsistent rules in some countries. For our destination next week (BA holiday) we booked PCR tests for departure (£125) , but then this was abandoned as mandatory as of tomorrow. We also had to get covid recovery certificates after fortunately getting covid early enough for our certificates to be valid at the destination - a nice little earner for someone (£130). Applying at the destination requires us to fill in a big form (2 hours work) after applying and paying for a local pcr test (£100). Then we have to book a rip-off private boat transfer to the hotel as a shared transfer isn't allowed (extra £200). The permission to travel form takes a variable number of days to be approved but is at least free. Extra stress when one person gets approved but not the other 5 days before travel requires several email followups.

Even as very experienced travellers this is very stressful and I can understand why most don't bother. For example if one of us had not received the permission to travel in time that would have been £8k down the drain.

Hopefully our destination will be quite empty given most people won't be bothered. And there's 560 bonus tierpoints to be had...
