Are you flying on DL metal or AF/KLM metal? From what you describe, it sounds like you are using miles/cash/GUC to upgrade to Z fares on AF/KLM. In the past I don't think DL.dumb knew how to differentiate paid Z vs. upgraded Z on AF/KLM but it's possible they've now figured that out and so you are getting underlying fare class (like you would on DL metal) instead of Z
