I see that AA does (or at least used to) provide proper JL-style Japanese meals and sake, so food and drink could be kinda equivalent. And I’m actually a pretty big fan of the reverse herringbone 789 AA seats, so hard product are both good in my book. Obviously, service is going to be exponentially better on JL, buuuuuut I’ve heard horror stories of JL’s cabins being saunas, and as someone that who enjoys Siberia in winter level temperatures to get to sleep, a hot cabin on an overnight can be a major deal breaker. (I’ve only been on 2 JL flights and both were short haul intra-Asia, but even those felt quite warm) So with that said, would you guys pick AA over JL for the tpac in my circumstance? I’d still fly a JL segment from NRT-se Asia, but those would be day flights, so temperature is less of a concern. Thanks all!

on and fwiw, I’d normally book QR for these trips, but me thinks because of the World Cup, they’re charging absolutely outrageous sums for J ex-US
I have flown many time on JAL US to Japan, almost always in F. I found the cabin temperature to be very warm. The last few times I bought a small USB powered fan and set it up to cool me down. One flight my wife and I were the only ones in F, and she spoke to them about cooling it down. They listen to the Japanese, not the big American. The service is almost too much, a bit over the top for me. I never had bad F or J service on AA going to Japan, if fact always very good. I guess it depends on what you want. I only drink water and tea, so I do not need constant refills. Get me my food and lets move on. On JAL they make a big deal out of not giving you a can/bottle so its constant refills. There is a thread on the JAL forum, I posted there about the temperature. My wife needed to go back in October to see her brother before he passed, and was in F, the only person, and she said it was not overly warm. All that said, take the JAL metal and service, get a USB fan. Be treated to exceptional service.
