.just to reiterate, conformance at lhr t5 ( ie scanning your boarding pass at security) is a fixed t-35 minutes prior to departure ( scheduled) unless the delay is known in advance.
A minute later at check in and check in would have been refused.
as mentioned above I would have hoped that the check in agent would have alerted you to the deadline.
