I’ve taken a couple of screen shots and overlayed roughly in highlight the airways structure and routing. The flights come down out of Dushanbe FIR and into Lahore FIR where they follow the airways structure. You’ll notice a gap that means no airways flying a more direct route towards ISB and LHE. The flights passes by Lahore prior to crossing into Delhi FIR and over Amritsar and onward to Delhi. The numbers in Red are Minimum Safe Altitudes in thousands of feet, so 25 followed by the smaller 4 is 25,400 ft amsl. Hence the airways structure avoids the cumulo-granite.
Thanks Sigwx. Very interesting. I didn't realise the mountains were that high round there. With 28 and 30 MSAs I guess that would severely restrict the amount of traffic that could safely fly direct.
