Would Return - If in the Area

Had a mostly positive stay--felt like a Kimpton which I like. This hotel treats Globalists very well, no complaints there. Two hour drive from home, I needed brand #10 so gave it a try. My daughter was with me; the hotel is dog friendly so she brought hers. Mentions a $35 pet fee, but I don't see a charge. There's a park very close by to walk dogs. Complimentary parking for everyone, including valet. Booked a standard two-bedded room and they did an upgrade to deluxe two-bedded room. #306 located in the newer building which is the lobby building. Room window overlooks the entrance/parking valets. I know that when booking rooms with two beds it's just about impossible to get a suite so was fine with the room I received. Gift bag upon arrival--bottle of wine, handmade chocolates from a local candy store, local dried apricots, local almonds, tin of mints, flower seed packets in a basked by the front desk--I like the vibe! Received a full page sheet describing all the Globalist benefits. Found the surrounding downtown area neat and clean. Hotel has conference rooms and clearly is counting on hosting events, weddings, etc.

Three possible eating and/or drinking establishments--all open!. Delighted to find the nicer restaurant, Rainbird, did have availability that night (after showing nothing a week prior when I checked). Five course tasting menu at $85. It was my daughter's birthday so we splurged. This food was wonderful, service good, and we thoroughly enjoyed each course. Only disappointment was my ribeye (not tender)--I wish I had ordered the fish. Rainbird may not be as upscale as some of you frequent, but for us it was a treat. The cocktails and glasses of wine I thought were reasonably priced. Next day was told charge breakfast at Native Sun and $20 pp would be deducted. Breakfast on the weekends lasts until 11:00 a,m. Went down around 10:00 and found a packed, chaotic Native Sun small area. Order at the counter, menu on the wall--if you can get in the door. Clearly they were overwhelmed. Items like breakfast burritos/sandwiches, avocado toast, bagel & salmon, cinnamon rolls, croissants, healthy juice drinks, coffee drinks. Unfortunately they were out of or unable to serve over half of the menu items. I finally hit on two things that were available--oatmeal and avocado toast. No half & half for the coffee. Only plain orange juice available (featured healthy juice concoctions not delivered from supplier). OK with plain OJ but received half a glass which tasted like it was mixed with grapefruit juice. Coffee arrived after we finished our meal. Lady sitting next to us said the third restaurant, Mainzer, has a delicious breakfast brunch with a chef, omelets etc. Had we known we would have gone there and not worried about the Globalist credit at Native Sun. Front desk said Mainzer has a different "accounting system" so not a Globalist option. I was told all restaurants can be charged to the room and earn Hyatt points (i.e., abovementioned expensive Rainbird).

The soundproofing in the room was not good--especially on a busy Saturday. People walking on the floor above and talking in the next room, Harleys, muscle cars, trains outside. Thus the provided ear plugs. I'm a sound sleeper so from about 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. it either quieted down or I slept through it. My daughter, who lives in a townhouse on a major busy street with two roommates, said the noise wasn't an issue. Other wise the room was nicely decorated, updated and clean. Other than some new restaurants, didn't find much to occupy one's time downtown. I took backroads home (avoid the 99 fwy) and the scenery is so gorgeous in the spring with the rolling green hills, ranches, cattle, some lakes, rivers, wildflowers, oak trees, peaceful. Good for a California backroads trip. Would return if there was a need to be in the area.
