Can that happen??? Yeesh! I don't generally audit my FF accounts (or checkbook for that matter) since I assume everything's right. The UA system is really awful since they backdate everything. It doesn't even appear that AA has a ledger system to show a running total. I have an LP spreadsheet of course but that doesn't have my starting/current balance or any redemption activity. I'll have to start taking screenshots I fear.

I agree that it's annoying for the end user but I really think it is to be expected. Remember that Cartera is on your side here. They want to get paid as well!
I understand that you are on Cartera's side but it really is ridiculous. In a free market, if this were Rakuten or Swagbucks, most of us would say screw 'em. They don't deserve our business if it takes 5 emails and 60 days to maybe get what we're owed.. Unfortunately, AA is dangling the status carrot and we are willing participants in this charade. Clearly I don't hate it that much if I'm reaching for 70k with zero planned revenue travel.
