Do not stay at the airport - go to the city
IST is an amazing city Lira is very weak, hotels (apart from high endl ones) are competitively priced - so why to stay at the airport...
Also my only case when TK lost my checked baggage was when I had a long connection in IST (but it was at Ataturk).
Had a long layover, then cancelled flight, then change of destination due to airport worker protest in Germany last week.
Twice I was assured that my bag had been transfered to my new Germany destination. It was, but not put on the flight. Miraculously, 6 hours after arriving, with no more TK (Or Sunturk etc) flights for the day, my bag arrived.
That's the one thing I always worry about with the long layovers that I encounter at IST.
