Personally i would always hold the premium card out of the two BA cards, not only for the enhanced Avios earning, 1.5 Avios per £ or 3 Avios per BA spend versus only 1 Avios per £ on the free card, but also the ability to redeem the voucher in Business class or First (if availability comes up) makes it better than the free card.
I still get value from my BAPP but i do understand others do not.
If you aren't tied to BA then I'd go for the Amex plat or gold cards. If you're in the UK then there's the new Barclaycard Avios card to consider too. Though as I hold the Barclaycard Honors card I'm ineligible for that.
