What happened during the 50 minutes?

If hotel engineering immediately responded and was actively working on the problem during that time, I would probably just chalk it up as one of those things that happens. But if it took them 50 minutes to decide that they gave a sh**, I'd be very unhappy.

I would generally accept the upgrade and leave it at that, but I too would have the question about why I wasn't assigned that room at checkin, since it sounds like merely a "deluxe" room, not a full suite that would be out of the upgrade pool.

Just bleedin’ deal with it; it’s hardly a life changing event losing a few hours of sleep. You’re awake already, embrace the fact that you have a few more hours in the day than you would normally have, do the unusual and thank the property for enriching your life that way. You’d be surprised how good karma is rewarded.

And, yes, it’s happened to me too. On more than one occasion. Front desk explained what had happened and offered an apology, and I thanked for it and told them the apology wasn’t really necessary since technical fubars can and will happen to all or us at one point.

Or, in other words, grow up and grow a pair!
Bruh.
