I agree BA's website linked above conflicts with my experience but I am in mainland Portugal now and reporting my experience. Every shop and enclosed space has messages at entrances requesting people put on a face mask. All public transport including taxis require people to wear a mask. And people are complying. I can only suggest if you don't want to wear a mask don't come to Portugal. I fly back on Saturday and will report if mask wearing on board the return flight is required or not.
