The change happens between 12/22 and 12/30. I have made a reservation on each date, the former was not charged a deposit the latter was.
I was also taken by surprise - it was disclosed in retrospect but I would never expect to see that in the rate I've booked which is a refundable rate and never charged deposit. It seems the hotel use it now for all the rates (cash-flow problem?).
I did cancel the reservation that was charged a deposit - and it was returned about a week later.
