With respect to delays, maintaing low expectations and flexibility help. With what you save flying on Frontier/Spirit/Allegiant you can afford to spring for a lounge pass, meal, or even a flight on a different airline and still come out ahead. There are worse places to be stuck than in Cancun.
I'd also venture that you stand to get some compensation eventually (either when you board or via email following your flight) if the delay was controllable. It probably won't be a lot but consider what you paid for your flight and it should be reasonable.
