Slightly larger? Should not be a problem, but the root of United's operating excellence is based on completely random forms of service delivery - so it's completely the luck of the draw if the agent wants you to size it or not. From a practical standpoint, if you're in Group 4 or board late in Group 3 and the flight is full, you're likely unable to find space anyway so the real decision line here is where you are boarding.
