I had one resort stay where the property accidentally charged me the resort fee on a free night certificate stay (because the front desk staff didn't understand the policy and didn't believe me when I verbally explained that it sounded wrong), but then they later refunded me when a manager got involved (and after I sent them the link to the written Hilton website policy on this).
