Pretty bad business practice for a hotel like this to be requiring full stay deposit at time of booking, and then not promptly refunding upon cancellation.
No what's absurd is you didn't read the cancelation policy before you clicked the book now button. I don't believe for a second that you were searching at the standard rates tab. Seems like your booking is the Marriott Escapes Rate which is clearly on the prepay tab. And I don't believe for a second that the "fine print" suddenly showed up after booking.
Bad business? How again?? You really think only high end properties have the right to advertise a cheaper rate but with certain payment terms?
You made an error, which is entirely your fault. And you complain you didn't get your refund back after a week? And btw, I have made pre-paid reservations at Marriott but the hotel didn't charge me until I checked-in. So it goes both ways on who's "keeping" the money.
