Twice when I was flying domestic from SFO (two flights about two months apart), they were using similar (or the same) machines. They were screening all pax in this way, so maybe it was not a trial. They mentioned it was different from an x-ray and I also remember reading about the technology that could see through fabric, but not dermis.

I just had to stand for a second looking forward, and then face the wall, so no demi plies involved. This was in lui of the normal metal detector. I knew they probably could see all my bits and maybe some little embarressing love-handlees... not sure how to think about privacy vs. security in this case. I feel sorry for the machine operators who have to see everything... the good and the ugly... yuck.

On health risks... one usually gets the wild and unsubstantiated rumors flying around the tabloids. Truth is, you receive more radition standing in front of a microwave or watching a silly BA commercial on a tube television. And of course previous comments about the actual flying has more exposure...

Do any (truly) frequent flyers wear x-ray badges, like many hospital/laboratory/nuclear facility staff do to monitor exposure? What about the FAs and flight crew?
