This is correct. However be aware that:
1) There is a limit on how much you can use the discount for
2) There is a monthly limit on GC purchases for AAdvantage credit
3) You will have trouble getting credit if you are using Safari or an ad blocker. Use a different browser and if you have an ad or popup blocker, disable it.

I purcahsed a $200 GC for $196 and got AA credit.
