Of course it has eeverything to do with it despite your refusal to accept it. Ryanair current requirement is stated in their terms and accepted by you when booking, as is easyJet etc. That they've showed leniency before does not mean it's guaranteed next time, nor should it be expected.

Using another carrier won't help as again, it has nothing to do with individual carriers, but rather industry-wide incompetence on what the UK regulations really are
Eventually one handling agent will go by the book and insist the terms you agreed to are adhered to and then you're back to square one. You obviously don't value your time when the simple solution is staring you in the face.
