If you have time and the free days, take a look at routing through HNL. Pre pandemic there was a "low cost" J routing to either AKL or SYD on Hawaiian or Qantas from HNL. NZ has a routing to AKL currently. One of my kids did this from JFK-AKL using miles and cash with a one day layover in HNL to make it work in Jan 2020.
